The Prizm parallel ladder

Panini Prizm parallels stack roughly from most-common to scarcest. Names and exact print runs vary year to year, so treat this as the shape of the rainbow rather than a fixed checklist:

• Base Prizm — the standard chrome card. The accessible entry point and the foundation of any Giannis Prizm run.
• Silver Prizm — un-numbered but the most iconic finish; the card most collectors picture when they say “Prizm.” The flagship non-numbered chase.
• Hyper / Red-White-Blue — retail-driven colored finishes that add pop without a serial number.
• Mojo & pattern finishes — splashier textured parallels that pull far less often than base.
• Numbered colors — Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Gold, and Black, each stamped with a print run. These are the scarce tier, and Gold/Black sit near the top of the ladder.
• 1-of-1 finishes — the true chase, one copy in existence.

Hobby packs vs. retail: why your box didn’t have a Silver Prizm

Every Prizm release is split across two separate points of sale, and each one carries its own, non-overlapping set of parallels — a detail that trips up a lot of new buyers:

• Hobby product — sold through hobby shops and hobby-only boxes and cases — is where Silver Prizm and the full run of serial-numbered colored parallels (Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Gold, Black) actually come from. If you’re chasing the Silver Prizm rainbow or a low-numbered color, hobby packs are the pool to search.
• Retail product — blaster boxes, mega boxes, and cello/fat packs sold at big-box and hobby-adjacent retailers — carries its own separate parallel lineup instead. Hyper Prizm, Ice, and Red/White/Blue are the classic retail-exclusive finishes. They don’t appear in hobby boxes, and Silver Prizm doesn’t appear in retail boxes.

That’s why two collectors can each open a “Prizm box” the same week and come away with completely different-looking cards — they weren’t drawing from the same pool. It’s also why this page splits its eBay rails by tier instead of lumping them together: “Silver Prizm” and “Hyper Prizm” are two different products to search for, not two names for the same finish. If a listing calls a card “Silver Prizm” but the seller’s own description says it came out of a retail blaster, treat that as a red flag worth asking about before you bid.

How to chase the rainbow

1. Pick a season to anchor on. An MVP year (2018-19 / 2019-20) or the championship year (2020-21) gives your rainbow a story.
2. Decide how deep you’re going. Base + Silver is an achievable core; the numbered colors are a long, rewarding hunt.
3. Buy graded on the scarce tiers. Chrome shows flaws easily — a high grade protects value on Gold, Black, and 1-of-1s.
